The work
Let go of simplicity. Let the numbers reveal themselves.
Large datasets hold relationships that are hard to reach. Ordinary visualization folds, layers, and stretches until the picture is small enough to grasp.
This practice keeps the stretch. The same warp, pointed at three kinds of source: trigonometric tables, market candles, Kepler photometry.
The artist
I began developing generative art algorithms and non-linear plotting more than a decade ago.
Using C++ for strange-attractor plots and Mandelbrot sets, I grew fascinated by how simple functions and data could generate such extensive complexity. Several early pieces appeared in a local arts publication.
Civil engineering and a construction start-up pulled me into wood — and the code the shop required. After a buyout I wrote boutique programs for a CNC and made custom pieces there.
DATAbstract grew directly out of that workshop: the same appetite for data, now on a chain.
